La Esmeralda is the capital of the municipality of Alto Orinoco. Located in the heart of the state of Amazonas, this area is home to both the Yekuana and the Yanomami indians. Alto Orinoco is a beautiful area that has rich soil for growing food. This town of La Esmeralda hosts the largest Catholic School in the state of Amazonas, with people sending their children here from all over the state to study. Even with this influence and a few others, there is still a spiritual void in the lives of most of the inhabitants of this region. The Yanomami are still considered by many missions groups to be an unreached people group. Although the gospel has been proclaimed among many of them, there is still much work to be done in order to see a strong thriving church in their midst. The family of Felix Peralta and Adela Guerrero de Peralta have been living and working in La Esmeralda for about 3 years with a heart to see a harvest among the Yanomami.
