SAN FERNANDO DE ATABAPO
Atabapo Bible Institute
San Fernando de Atabapo is the home of a growing church "Mission Selva" (jungle mission). The church has been in existence for about 15 years and is pastored by Pedro Leal / Ana Martinez de Leal. Being one of the oldest and healthiest churches in the area, we believe that this body of believers will be very involved in reaching the municipality of Atabapo and the state of Amazonas. We have built a school on the same piece of property as the church where we are able to prepare Indigenous pastors and leaders to care for the work in Amazonas. With a capacity of 30 students at a time, this school has the capability of raising up the needed leaders to make a great impact in this area. Leover Sirit along with his wife Luzmarina Figuera de Sirit are missionaries appointed by the Venezuelan Missions board for the purpose of heading up this Bible Institute full-time. Atabapo has a long and old history. At one time, when Amazonas was a territory, it was the capital. Still viewed as an important place in the eyes of many, the town is always full of people buying and selling. Atabapo is probably the most diverse capital with indigenous people from other municipalities coming here to send their children to school and to better their life. Curripaco and Piapoco are the two main groups in this area.
